CABLE ADVISORY COUNCIL CHAIRMAN'S LETTER
10 September 2013
Elisabeth Esty, US Congressman, Federal 5th District
Richard Blumenthal, US Senator from Connecticut
Christopher Murphy, US Senator from Connecticut
The CT PURA Area 19 Cable Advisory Council for Charter Communications unanimously moved on 9July 2013, tasking their chairman to write the US Congressional legislative representatives and express the Council's support for the concepts expressed in the published article,
Cable TV, Done The Right Way,
by John McCain, US Senator (AZ-R) 22 May 2013
The rise in the public chorus singing the praise of ala carte' program delivery is in direct response to the escalating unfairness of bundled program marketing by Multiple Video Program Distribution companies. It has become clear that substantial profits growth in the sports telecasting business is borne on the backs of citizens who do not wish to participate, essentially becoming a SPORTS TAX.
The draft legislation of S912 is clearly a work in progress. It appears to have gone off the rails with special interest provisions for MVPD's. Please re-examine the motivation behind the public outcry for “Cable TV Reform”.
Please support simple legislation with clear language that eliminates the “SPORTS TAX” without infringing 1st Amendment and Article 1 Section 8 US Constitutional rights.
