Paying Too Much for Cable TV?

Get Basic … and Save $$$!

If you think you are paying too much for Charter Cable TV service, you may be able to save some money. How? By subscribing to ONLY the Basic Service Tier.

Cable TV companies like Charter Communications offer a low-cost and economical Basic Service Tier option to viewers,” explained Gregory Davis, Chairman of the Charter Cable Advisory Council. The Cable Advisory Council is a group of citizens, appointed by the towns that Charter serves, that advises Charter on issues related to basic cable service and community access TV.

Charter could do a much better job of promoting its Basic Service Tier option on either its web site, or though its customer service representatives,” he continued. “The option is very cost-effective and Charter will allow you to subscribe to the Basic Service Tier if you request it.”

Nearly 50 Channels

The minimum cost for Charter’s Basic Service Tier option -- which encompasses nearly 50 channels – including a good number of over the air local channels in High Definition -- for just $26.99 a month, plus $6.99 for a set-top receiver box, $3.50 for a broadcast TV surcharge, and state sales tax, according to the Charter. That amounts to a total of just $39.82 a month.

(A complete list of the channels included in the Fairfield County service area follows.)

The Basic Service Tier option may be ideal for senior citizens living on a fixed income, high school or college graduates just starting out, or other subscribers who have been impacted by the prolonged recession and just need to carefully watch how their money is spent,” added Mr. Davis, who is the Cable Advisory Council representative from Roxbury.

Charter certainly offers an impressive array of programming choices,” he continued, “but for subscribers who want to spend as little as possible for Cable TV service, the Basic Service Tier is the lowest cost option available.”

If you are a Charter Communications customer and want to select the Basic Service Tier option, the Cable Advisory Council advises you to call Charter Communications at 877.906.9121 and speak with a customer service representative. Request to switch from your existing level of service to the Basic Service Tier option. It will be helpful to have a copy of your cable bill for reference.

Your local town’s Cable Advisory Council representative is available to help you understand how to sign up for the Basic Service Tier. Your local Mayor or First Selectman can also help you can find the name of your town’s Cable Advisory Council representative.

A list of your Cable Advisory Council representatives is posted on the www.cableadvisorycouncil.com website. You may email the Chairman@CableAdvisoryCouncil.com and also post a note to the Cable Advisory Council at PO Box 87, Newtown CT, 06470.
